Meet Jami, A LeaderStat Recruiter!

We have an incredibly dynamic team at LeaderStat. Each person brings a unique set of skills and experience and we love to feature them on our blog.  We recently sat down with Jami Brett, Executive Search Consultant, to ask her some questions about her role at LeaderStat.

1.          How long have you been with LeaderStat and what was your first position?

I have been with LeaderStat 8 years. I started as Executive Recruiter then grew to Recruiter & Account Manager. I am now an Executive Search Consultant.

2.          What is your position now and what are your primary responsibilities?

As an Executive Search Consultant, I still recruit on high level searches or niche searches that match my senior living background, but mostly working with clients & managing the search process.  Territories I serve are the Northeast & Mid-Atlantic (Maine down to Virginia), Pennsylvania, Ohio & Minnesota.

3.          What does your typical day look like?

It can begin early or end really late. We are all so mobile these days that I can be on a call any time of day. Most days start with following up on the previous days interviews then I move to strategy calls with candidates and clients on how to best message themselves and the moves they have made. Our team starts to buzz when there are negotiations or offers going on. I’m kinda known for being unfiltered and my clients (and candidates) seem to appreciate the opportunity to be real with me, there is a lot of laughing that comes from my side of the office.

4.          What do you love most about your job?

I love hearing both sides of the conversation. A client will describe what they want, then a candidate will describe their ideals.  Those situations when, without any prompting, you hear the right match begin to form, my “gut” goes crazy and it is so fun to tie them together and watch a great relationship form. This is my way to continue to serve the end user, the resident. Because happy teams give the best care… and everyone deserves to be happy!

5.          What do you enjoy least?

When a new client has had a poor experience with another firm and calls us with a chip on their shoulder (rightfully so!). It is hard to battle past experiences, and talk is cheap. All we can do is continue to work hard, live up to our claim to be different and exceed their expectations with unfiltered honesty.

6.          Tell us about a great experience one of your candidates has had.

I had a candidate that moved across the country to raise their family where the spouse grew up. She gave up a career, her friends, everything, and was working in a job well below her credentials to make ends meet.  A client asked for a specific set of skills & personality and there went the “gut” I described earlier. We connected them for the interview and it was perfect.  She got a huge increase in pay that changed her family’s life and the client got the spark they needed to drive them to the next level with this great hire.  That was almost 7 years ago & we still keep in touch. She is still there & still crushing it!

7.          If you could give one piece of advice to candidates looking for a new job, what would it be?

Take your next job search seriously, we do.  It can truly change your life. There are candidates that throw incomplete resumes out there and speak without thought, then wonder why they are not being seriously considered for the “good jobs.”

I have learned the entire search process is a delicate interpersonal dance. Opinions are formed based on past experiences.  The old marketer in me says choose your words wisely, each one holds weight and we never know what others interpretation of them may be. I can help you with that! <Wink>

Jami, you are amazing, and we are so lucky to have you on our LeaderStat team!
