Medication Aide Certification (MA-C) Program - CEU Resources

CONTINUING EDUCATION (CE): You are required to upload 15 contact hours of continuing education completed each renewal period as follows:  

  • One (1) contact hour must be Category A (directly related to Ohio law & rules).         

    Category A must be approved by an OBN Approver or offered by an OBN approved provider unit headquartered in the state of Ohio.

    The Board does not maintain a list of continuing education courses, however, you are able to obtain the Category A (Ohio law and rules) contact hour from the Board's website by clicking the link below.

  • One (1) contact hour must be directly related to establishing and maintaining professional boundaries.

    For Professional Boundaries continuing education resources, click the link below and find “Establishing and Maintaining Professional Boundaries” listed in the right-hand column. You will need to contact the Organization directly for continuing education course information.

  • Ten (10) contact hours must be directly related to medication administration consistent with the function of the MA-C.

  • The remaining three (3) contact hours (if not directly related to medication administration) must be a learning activity that builds upon a precertification education program and enables a certificate holder to acquire or improve knowledge or skills that promote professional or technical development to enhance the certificate holder’s contribution to quality health care and pursuit of health care career goals.
CE Trackers, Training Records, Attendance Certificates and Professional Cards will not be accepted.

Please keep your CE certificates for six (6) years.
 

A certificate of completion of an approved provider of CE must include the following:

  • Your name
  • Title of program
  • Date of program
  • Name of the provider
  • A statement that includes the number of Category A hours, if applicable
  • Authorized Ohio Board of Nursing (OBN) Approver name and number, if applicable
  • Name of the authorized approver or approval body
  • Number of contact hours earned

You can use your college credits (official or unofficial transcript) as CE credits for your reinstatement. Your Transcript must display your name, title(s) of course(s), credits awarded, dates courses were completed, and the name of the school.

The conversion from academic credit to CE contact hours is:

  • 1 credit hour in a quarter system = 10 contact hours of CE
  • 1 credit hour in a trimester system = 12 contact hours of CE
  • 1 credit hour in a semester system = 15 contact hours of CE
